Ray began his
career in 1960 with Todd Shipyards Corporation in San Pedro,
California. During his 32 year career at Todd, he held such positions
as Accounting Paymaster and Accounting Supervisor. While employed in
the accounting field, Ray set his sights on the safety, workers'
compensation and liability insurance fields. He attended specialty
courses through Aetna and Traveler's Insurance companies, as well as
attending a local college at night.
He successfully made the transition in 1970, as a director for the
Safety and Workers' Compensations Departments. He spearheaded the
effort to create a new safety program for the shipyard, which met
Federal and State OSHA standards. His effort came to fruition in 1976,
which resulted in the shipyard receiving a fewer number of OSHA
inspections and reducing OSHA Citations.
In 1981, he transformed Todd's Workers' Compensation program into a
self-administered program. In his tenure with Todd Shipyards
Corporation, it is estimated that he managed over 30,000 compensations
claims.
In addition, Ray was a founding member of the Longshore Claims
Association (LCA), which was established to promote cooperation among
those claims adjusters handing workers' compensation claims, as well as
perpetuating their proper administration. He has been a Director at the
LCA since the association's founding in 1989.
In 1993, he joined Lamorte Burns & Co., Inc., to oversee the
Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation claims.
